The accounts are serviced by 63 payment service providers: 60 banks and three non-bank companies.

Banks remain the main players

The vast majority of accounts — 207.5 million — are opened in banks.

Of these

  • 200.4 million belong to individuals
  • 4.7 million belong to individual entrepreneurs
  • 2.4 million belong to legal entities

Non-bank payment companies serve a significantly smaller share — over 1.11 million accounts.

How many people use payment services

The total number of payment service users reached 87.3 million, which is 4.4% more than a year earlier.

Banks serve 86.3 million customers, of which:

  • 82.8 million are individuals
  • 2.5 million are sole proprietors
  • almost 1 million are legal entities

Non-banking services have about 1.03 million users.

Why are there more accounts than people?

The National Bank explains that this difference is normal. The law does not limit the number of accounts that a person or company can open.

On average, one individual has about two accounts. Often, customers use the services of several banks or combine bank accounts with accounts in fintech services.

As a result, the total number of users and accounts may exceed the country’s population.

A parallel trend is the growth of remittances

The more active use of financial services is happening against the backdrop of stable cash flows from abroad. According to the regulator, in 2025, more than $8 billion was transferred to Ukraine through official and unofficial channels.
