FT: Trump has failed to deliver a prosperous economy to Americans

The slowdown in the labor market is not in line with US President Donald Trump’s promises to ensure a prosperous economy in America. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper, citing experts and American politicians, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

After the loud statements of the American leader, it was expected that a large-scale import duty, tightening of immigration policy and other measures would ensure steady employment growth and stable inflation. However, the data of the US Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate the opposite, the publication notes. Thus, in August, the number of jobs in the United States increased by 22 thousand, three times less than the experts’ forecast.

For the prospects of the Republican Party, from which Trump ran for president, this could be a warning sign in the 2026 congressional elections, the article says.

According to New Hampshire Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan, the US economy is in great uncertainty: costs are rising, production is declining, and businesses do not know what to do – invest or hire.

“This is a direct result of the president’s tariffs and the uncertainty he has created,” the senator said.

Donald Trump, in turn, continues to claim that the US economy is in excellent condition.

In the first half of 2025, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that US GDP growth slowed to 1.2%.
