HBO Max has officially launched in Ukraine: what the service offers and how it will coexist with Megogo

on October 14, the HBO Max streaming service officially became available to Ukrainian users. The platform was launched with two tariffs – Standard and Premium, as well as the ability to add a package of sports broadcasts, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
HBO Max is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and combines content from HBO, DC, Discovery, Cartoon Network, as well as series from the Harry Potter universe.
How much does a subscription cost?
Two main tariff plans are currently available to Ukrainians:
- Standard – 7.99 euros per month.
Allows you to watch content on two devices simultaneously and download up to 30 movies or episodes for offline viewing. - Premium – 9.99 euros per month.
Provides viewing on four devices, higher image quality (up to 4K HDR) and up to 100 downloads.
You can also add a sports package for 3 euros per month, which includes Discovery Sports broadcasts.
How it works in Ukraine
Despite the launch of its own platform, HBO Max continues to cooperate with the Ukrainian service Megogo. According to Forbes, Megogo’s “Maximum” subscription (449 UAH/month) provides access to the same HBO content that is now available on the official HBO Max.
This means that Ukrainian users can choose between the local Megogo interface and the global HBO Max app, depending on their preferences and payment method.
HBO Max was launched in 2020 in the United States and then gradually expanded its geography from Latin America to Europe. In the summer of 2025, Warner Bros. Discovery announced the entry into 12 new markets, including Ukraine.
The launch of the service coincides with the active development of the streaming market in Ukraine: in 2025, Netflix, Megogo, Sweet.TV, and Apple TV are competing for viewers, and the share of local subscribers has more than tripled in three years.
