NGO “Zemlyachki” announces winter collection “Buy a coat” in the amount of UAH 10 million

The NGO Zemlyachki has launched an annual winter campaign to support female military personnel, Buy a Coat, which aims to raise UAH 10,000,000 to purchase winter sets of women’s uniforms and equipment. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the company’s press release.

The purpose of the collection is to provide Ukraine’s defenders with winter uniforms adapted to women’s anatomy

Today, more than 70,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which about 10,000 are in combat units. However, the current provision of the military remains focused primarily on male anthropometry, which makes it difficult for women to serve, especially in cold weather.

For the fourth year in a row, Zemlyachky NGO has been developing, manufacturing and delivering winter uniforms for women to the front lines, taking into account the specifics of the female body.

“Women’s winter gear is not an additional convenience, but a basic element of safety and efficiency. The ability to effectively perform combat missions in difficult conditions depends on properly selected clothing and equipment,” said Ksenia Draganiuk, co-founder of the NGO.

About the meaning of the “Buy a jacket” campaign

The name of the campaign is an ironic reference to the familiar phrase “Buy an elephant”.
But this time the joke is based on the reality of war. “Buy a Coat” is a call for a responsible act, an action that has a direct meaning: to help women at the front to have warm, safe and comfortable clothes and equipment in winter.

In this context, the coat is a symbol of warmth, care and dignity, although it is a complete set of equipment: a winter women’s uniform, body armor tailored to the body’s anatomy, winter boots and a helmet that is sized to fit.

The campaign, which features contemporary Ukrainians such as Serhiy Zhadan and Daniel Salem alongside the historical figures of Khmelnytsky, Petliura, and Mazepa, emphasizes the main idea: warmth and protection are not luxuries, but basic needs for everyone who defends the country.

The face of the campaign is Runa, a soldier who has been serving for more than eight years since she was nineteen. She symbolizes women defenders who still do not have an approved women’s winter uniform in the official supply.

How to join the collection

The organization calls on businesses, public initiatives and individuals to join the campaign in a convenient way:

  1. Open an auxiliary jar and distribute it among your circle – in social media or corporate communities.
  2. Organizea charity event (brunch, auction, raffle or creative meeting) to raise funds for winter kits for female defenders.
  3. Initiate your own collection within the campaign – together with friends, partners or a company.

The Zemlyachky NGO provides information materials, visual resources and consulting support to everyone who wants to join.

Why it is necessary

The state does not yet provide women servicewomen with separate winter uniforms. That is why the organization’s team has developed a women’s standard of equipment – field suits, fleece sets, thermal underwear, insulated pants, jackets and boots that meet the needs of women in the army.

“We strive to make sure that every woman at the front feels protected. Our programs are about dignity, respect and equal conditions of service,” adds Ksenia Draganiuk.
