Voting for the “law against NABU and SAPO”: a well-known lawyer told what preceded it

OPINION
The situation with the NABU and the SAPO, whose powers were limited by a law signed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, arose after the visit of US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg to Kyiv. At least three factors could have been the root cause, explains Stepan Havrysh, Doctor of Law, Professor at the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law Academy, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.
Version one
Keith Kellogg, in a conversation with the president and 5-6 “team managers,” used information that probably came from NABU and SAPO, whose leaders were close to Zaluzhnyi at the time. The emotional spasm turned into a tsunami and almost washed away the anti-corruption activists along with Shabunin (activist Vitaliy Shabunin – ed.) into the ocean of war.
Version two
The first one is out. Keith Kellogg brought the position of US President Donald Trump on the need to hold presidential and parliamentary elections. This is what Vladimir Putin wants as part of a possible ceasefire agreement and the creation of new political circumstances to end the war.
It sounds conspiratorial, since there are no leaks of information other than hints. Except for a strange article by Seymour Hersh, The End for Zelensky? published on his author’s website.
We don’t believe it, because there is no logic in the version of revenge for the cases of Chernyshov (head of the Ministry of National Unity Oleksiy Chernyshov – ed.) and Mindich (co-owner of Kvartal 95 Timur Mindich – ed.).
After all, the latter’s apartment was bugged by NABU for a long time. No one would have dared, especially a leader with a global rating, to commit such an abuse of power that could not be concealed. Although, let’s remember, Nixon (American politician, 37th President of the United States of America, Richard Nixon – ed.) – and not only he – did this.
The NABU and SAPO vaults contain a lot (maybe too much) of dirt on top officials who are somehow connected to the president. According to the laws of the political market and the digital world, this information would inevitably get into the electoral context. And not only in Ukraine.
Therefore, prosecutors could, without a court order, enter and take possession of it, or tried to do so during searches in agencies. Or perhaps not. Because in the fog of this small internal war, which is only getting thicker, little is visible.
Version three
The third option is also conspiratorial. In response to the “Kid’s Web,” which has turned Putin into a naked nerve, the operation could have been carried out by the FSB, using double agents, sleeper traitors, migrant workers, and unstable people from the political or technical environment.
It was as if the head of state had been locked behind a Faraday screen, neutralizing external signals and creating a stream of reactive discrediting information from the NABU and SAPO.
Let’s pay tribute to Zelenskyy. Unlike Yanukovych, he has not yet crossed his Rubicon. Perhaps the Kremlin was counting on this. Because the president is the main, central, most important figure on the chessboard of war. The attack on the anti-corruption agencies has weakened him, but it has also opened a window of opportunity.
To use it, we need to put the chessboard back on the table. Along with all the game pieces. Repainted in white, Putin’s black pieces have not fallen, and continue to squeeze the white ones, who still do not dare to take off their gloves.
We are constantly trying to convince ourselves and others that the chessboard is only in Ukraine. But it is global. As our ancestors imagined it: the world rests on three whales floating in the boundless ocean. Similarly, war, peace, and democracy rest on the Ukrainian spine.
Zelenskyy was no whale, but he confidently and firmly held the stability of the chessboard. Together with his allies. It was almost a single organism. He was sick of Orban, Fico, Marjorie Taylor Green, MAGA, and Trump. The latter is hard. But not Ukraine.
