Coke Plant has become a problem: the occupiers have stopped the reconstruction of Avdiivka

Representatives of the occupation administration have announced the suspension of restoration work in the occupied Avdiivka due to problems with the coke plant. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, citing statements by the occupiers, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to a representative of the occupation authorities, the main work on the reconstruction of the city has been suspended until a decision is made on the fate of the Avdiivka Coke Plant.

The Avdiivka Coke Plant was a city-forming enterprise and provided jobs for a significant number of local residents. It was around this plant that Russian propagandists built the narrative of a “new life” after the “liberation”.

However, in practice, the situation turned out to be quite different. After the media hype around Avdiivka died down, the occupation authorities began looking for excuses to freeze all promises of “reconstruction.”

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine emphasizes that such rhetoric is yet another confirmation that the “restoration” of the occupied territories exists only on the screens of Russian TV channels. In reality, it is a devastated city, a destroyed enterprise and a complete lack of prospects for life.

Avdiivka was a large industrial city before the full-scale recapture.

The main industrial enterprise of the city was the Avdiivka Coke Plant, which was considered the largest producer of coke, sulfuric acid and mineral fertilizers in Europe.

There were also smaller enterprises in the city, such as an electromechanical plant, a quarry for quartz sand, a plant for reinforced concrete structures, a confectionery and sausage production shops, etc.

Before the war, Avdiivka was home to more than 30,000 people. But the full-scale war changed everything.

Russia seized the city of Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast in February 2024. The city was almost destroyed during the fighting. According to the head of the Avdiivka city military administration, Vitaliy Barabash, the destruction in the city is close to 100%.
