The border with Moldova is closed: Ukraine temporarily suspends crossing at Transnistrian section

The checkpoints on the border with Moldova have temporarily stopped working. This was announced by the spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko during a telethon, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
“If we talk about the border with Moldova, the checkpoints are not functioning, and temporarily there are no passage operations on the Transnistrian segment,”
– he said.
The SBGS spokesperson did not say why the checkpoints were not working. However, a similar situation occurred on October 31, when the Tudora checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border was not working. At that time, it was explained by problems with the functioning of the customs database in Moldova.
Demchenko also said that passenger traffic on the Ukrainian border has significantly decreased compared to the summer period. Over the past day, it amounted to about 80 thousand people in both directions, with a 50-50 ratio. On weekends, passenger traffic can reach 100-105 thousand people per day.
When asked about illegal border crossings, the spokesman added that border guards detain dozens of people trying to illegally cross the border every day, and most of these violations occur in the so-called “green zone” outside the official checkpoints.

But, according to Demchenko, since August, there has been a decrease in the number of such attempts.
“Given that the weather conditions will only worsen in the future… and then there will be winter, we also hope and predict that the number of people willing to illegally cross the border will only decrease,”
– added the spokesman.
Demchenko also informed that so far more than 40 people have died trying to cross the border through inaccessible mountainous areas or rivers. Most of these cases occurred on the river sections of the border.
“As for the northern border, there are two directions: Belarus and Russia. On the first one, the situation remains stable. We have full control over this section of the border. We do not record any unusual situations. As for the border with Russia, the enemy has not abandoned its subversive actions, using subversive reconnaissance groups that are trying to enter our territory,”
– demchenko said.
