A plane carrying world-famous Chinese architect Kunjiang Yu and Brazilian filmmakers Luis Ferrash and Rubens Crispim Jr. crashed in the city of Aquidauana (Brazil). This was reported by the Metrópoles publication, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to media reports, a Cessna plane with four people on board crashed the night before. After hitting the ground, the aircraft exploded.

The crash occurred in a remote area, which complicates the work of rescue services.

Unfortunately, all passengers and the pilot were killed.

Who was Kunjiang Yu?

The architect was 62 years old. He gained worldwide fame for his “sponge city” concept, which aims to combat floods and other extreme weather events by creating water management systems in cities.

The Yoo concept involves

  • absorption of rainwater by green spaces, wetlands and permeable road surfaces;
  • accumulation of water for use during droughts;
  • minimizing the effects of floods on infrastructure and residential areas.

The architect has published over 20 books and more than 300 scientific articles. He has received international awards such as the IFLA Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Prize, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, and the RAIC International Prize.

Kunjiang worked with Brazilian filmmaker Luis Ferrash on a documentary about “sponge cities”, and Rubens Crispim Jr. also specialized in documentary filmmaking.
