In an interview for the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel, journalist and TV presenter Konstantin Grubich shared his personal vision of modern journalism. When asked whether he had ever experienced moments of disappointment in the profession, he frankly admitted that external factors are a challenge, but the inner sense of justice remains the main guideline.

You can’t change people: about the reaction of society and haters

Speaking about the changing information environment, Hrubych recalled the period when there were no bots and comments in the media space were more “human”.

“You can’t change people. Even earlier, when bots appeared, there was no such phenomenon, and it was still possible to be offended. I knew the character of a certain person who wrote something wrong – I was familiar with him or her,” Grubych said.

Today, according to the journalist, it is difficult to distinguish a genuine reaction from a fake news item created either by bots or people working for money:

“And now you don’t know whether it’s a robot or some scumbag sitting on the couch quietly scribbling something for which he also gets paid. You can’t take this into account at all.”

Despite the external pressure, Hrubych believes that the only thing a journalist should really take into account is his or her own conscience and answer to the Almighty:

“Only the inner feeling and God. The conversation is about how you will communicate with the Almighty when the moment comes.”

“This is not journalism”: criticism of modern online content

Grubych expressed skepticism about the quality of journalism on the Internet, especially on resources with a large number of anonymous comments:

“If you pay attention to all this, it is no longer journalism. These are comments of yellow Internet content. Not that it’s not journalism at all, but there is a very large percentage of chaff there.”

The journalist urged his colleagues not to lose focus and not to let external factors affect the main thing – honesty to themselves and their profession.
