The city took action on signs: how many illegal advertising structures were dismantled in a month
6 March 21:46
In February, 1,173 advertising structures and signs that had been installed in violation of the law were dismantled in Kyiv.
This was reported by the Advertising Department of the Kyiv City State Administration, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the city, 517 structures were removed by their owners after receiving orders to do so. The rest were dismantled by teams from the Kyivreklama municipal enterprise.
This approach — where businesses are first given the opportunity to remedy violations themselves — is typical practice for city authorities.

What residents complained about
In February, special attention was paid to illuminated structures.
According to Marina Dekhan, director of Kyivreklama, the dismantling was also carried out in response to residents’ complaints.
These were advertising media whose lighting did not comply with the established regime, which caused complaints from Kyiv residents, in particular due to excessive light at night.
Where most advertisements were dismantled
Most violations were recorded on buildings.
Dismantling statistics for February:
- 775 structures — on building facades
- 152 structures — on fences
- 15 structures — on building roofs
This indicates that facade advertising remains the most common type of illegal placement.

Energy factor
Tighter control over advertising lighting is taking place against the backdrop of energy restrictions in the capital.
Since January 16, Kyiv has restricted the use of electricity for outdoor lighting due to the difficult situation in the power system after Russian attacks.
In response, outdoor advertising operators:
- reduced electricity consumption on digital and facade media by 78%.
What this means for urban space
The active dismantling of advertising has several goals:
- clearing urban space of chaotic signs
- compliance with advertising placement rules
- reducing light and energy consumption
For several years now, the Kyiv authorities have been pursuing a policy of reducing illegal outdoor advertising, especially on the facades of historic buildings and in central areas of the city.
