President of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) Tymofiy Mylovanov is convinced that Kyiv-Mohyla Academy could do more if it were a private educational institution. He said this in an interview with LIGA.net, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the former minister, state universities receive too much money that could be spent on the army.
“State universities teach nothing. It is irresponsible to give them money for nothing, especially during the war. The state pays salaries to people who mutilate children, when this money is needed for the army. Universities know this, they take bribes to enroll those who need a deferment from the army, but cry that everything is bad and they don’t have enough,” Milovanov said.
He cited the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as an example, calling it unprofitable.
“Mohyla is not bad, but it is also bound by various state regulators and does not work to its full potential. If we, a university with no name, can raise a lot of money for the campus, what could they do? They could raise hundreds of millions of dollars. But now they have only problems. If the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy were a private university, it could do much more than it does now,” the former minister believes.
According to Milovanov’s calculations, Mohyla Academy is worth $40-50 million, “but it is unprofitable, don’t forget that.”
KSE President Tymofiy Mylovanov has been talking about buying the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy for months. This should make it more efficient, and help KSE develop more rapidly.
The private Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) is preparing a request to the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) to acquire the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
According to Tymofiy Mylovanov, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is the oldest university in Ukraine, with more than 4,700 students, according to the State Education and Business Register. It is consistently among the top three in the Forbes Ukraine ranking of universities that provide the best training for a career in business, particularly in economics and IT. Milovanov also reminded that Kyiv School of Economics used to be a structural part of Mohyla Academy.
