The Berehove District Court of Zakarpattia has sentenced a man who bit a police officer during his arrest.
This is stated in the court’s decision, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The incident occurred in August 2024. Around midnight, a police patrol went to the ATB supermarket in Berehove to stop a public order disturbance there.
On the spot, the police asked a native of Turkmenistan to show his documents, but the man refused and instead “continued his hooliganism.”
When he was invited to go to the police station, the man began to pull at the policeman’s clothes with his hands and pushed him away. And after he was handcuffed, he pulled the police officer down by his clothes, and they fell to the ground together.
Continuing to resist, the man bit the police lieutenant’s right hand. The case file states that the police officer’s injury was classified as light bodily harm that caused a short-term health disorder lasting more than six days.
The court found the man guilty under Part 2 of Art. 342, Part 2 of Art. 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – resistance and intentional infliction of light bodily harm to a law enforcement officer in connection with the performance of his official duties.
At the trial, the attacker fully admitted his guilt and said that he regretted his actions.
Since there were no aggravating circumstances and the man repented, the court sentenced him to a 3-year restriction of liberty. He will be released from serving his sentence if he does not commit a new crime within one year.
