On Thursday, July 3, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the home of former Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. This was reported by ZN.UA’ s sources in law enforcement agencies, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to them, the search took place as part of an investigation into the purchase of food for the Armed Forces at inflated prices.
During the investigation, law enforcement officers seized an unregistered phone and a number of documents from Reznikov.
The NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have not officially commented on the situation.
As a reminder, in April, the NABU publicly stated that Reznikov was not a suspect in the case, but the investigation continued.
Earlier, on April 2, the Bureau reported that it had uncovered the embezzlement of more than UAH 733 million during the procurement of food for the Armed Forces and an attempt to embezzle another UAH 788 million. At the same time, it became known that several officials and businessmen were suspected, including the former head of the Defense Ministry’s procurement department, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, and food supplier Tetiana Hlyniana.
The resonance around the food contracts arose after a journalistic investigation by Yuriy Nikolov, who published data on the purchase of eggs at UAH 17 per piece and the signing of billion-dollar deals with little-known companies with minimal authorized capital. In particular, a contract worth 13 billion was signed with a “gasket” company.
The investigation indicated that the anti-corruption and supervisory units of the Ministry of Defense, including internal audit, were under the control of then-Deputy Minister Zamlynskyi.
In January 2023, Vyacheslav Shapovalov and Bohdan Khmelnytsky were dismissed from their positions. Both have already been notified of suspicion, but in a case not about eggs, but about the purchase of low-quality bulletproof vests. This case has been referred to the court.
Oleksiy Reznikov’s role in the corruption scheme has not yet been officially determined, but the NABU continues to investigate.
