The “Mystetskyi Arsenal” National Cultural, Art, and Museum Complex was damaged by Russian shelling on the night of Monday, June 15. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing “Interfax-Ukraine. “
“A fire broke out on the grounds of the Art Arsenal as a result of yet another Russian attack on Kyiv. It was likely caused by a direct hit from a missile. Rescue services are currently on the scene. We are assessing the extent of the damage and evaluating the consequences for the institution’s building. Fortunately, our employees are safe,” the Arsenal stated.
They thanked all the services working to address the aftermath of the attack.
In turn, Olesia Ostrovska-Lyuta, the Art Arsenal’s general director, said that the “Shahed” struck the Art Arsenal around 5 a.m.
“It appears that this drone first struck Ivan Kushchnyk’s Mazepa Tower and then exploded on the roof of the Arsenal,” she added.
According to her, rescue operations lasted until around 9:30 a.m., and a large portion of the roof of the Old Arsenal’s left wing was severely damaged.
“A more detailed assessment of the damage will take several days. But the restoration will definitely cost a significant amount of money… I’m pleased and find it very helpful that many fellow museum professionals have offered assistance, even just with the bureaucratic paperwork,” she added.
As a reminder, Kyiv bore the brunt of the attack last night. Attacks were recorded in several districts of the capital, including Obolon, Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Holosiivskyi.
According to preliminary data, four people were killed in Kyiv, and another 23 were injured, including a child. Fires broke out in the city, and residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, stores, warehouses, and vehicles were damaged.
