The US announced progress in negotiations to end the war
According to the US president’s special representative, the negotiation process is moving forward, and the parties are showing a willingness to continue the dialogue.
“President Trump’s success in bringing both sides of this war together has led to significant progress, and we are proud to be working under his leadership to stop the killing in this horrific conflict,” Steve Witkoff said.
He also stressed that the negotiations are continuing and that the participants have agreed to maintain constant contact with the leadership of their countries.
“Both sides agreed to update their respective leaders and continue working on the agreement,” the US special representative added.
Negotiations will continue on February 18
According to official information, the next round of negotiations is scheduled for February 18. The meetings are taking place amid increased diplomatic pressure from the US, which is trying to speed up the process of reaching a peaceful settlement.
US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker previously noted that the negotiations are “detailed and productive,” but one of the most difficult issues remains the status of the occupied territories.
The Ukrainian delegation is coordinating its position with European allies
The Ukrainian side is represented in the negotiations by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov. In addition to the main consultations, the Ukrainian delegation held separate meetings with representatives of key European partners.
In particular, consultations were held with representatives of:
- the United Kingdom
- France
- Germany
- Italy
These negotiations are aimed at forming a common position between Europe and Ukraine on the further settlement of the war.
The Geneva format could become a key stage in the negotiations
The Geneva talks are part of a broader diplomatic process aimed at ending the war and finding long-term security guarantees.
The US plays a key role in mediating between the parties, trying to create conditions for a compromise.
The results of the negotiations are expected to influence the further course of the war, sanctions policy, and the security situation in Europe.
