Dive to the depths: Ukrainian reconnaissance men shoot down a Russian fighter jet over the Black Sea

on 11 September 2024, fighters of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine shot down a Russian Su-30SM fighter jet using man-portable air defence systems during an operation in the Black Sea. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" citing the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine’s press service.
The aircraft belonged to the 43rd Separate Naval Aviation Regiment of Russia, based in the occupied Crimea, at the airfield in the city of Saki.
The Russian military lost contact with the aircraft at 5am, and then launched a search operation a few hours later. They engaged an An-26 transport aircraft and Mi-8 and Ka-27 helicopters. Later in the afternoon, the Russians discovered a stain of jet fuel on the water 70 kilometres off Cape Tarkhankut, and later found the wreckage of the fighter jet.

The cost of the Su-30SM is estimated at around $50 million.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff of the Armed Forces, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has destroyed 369 Russian military aircraft.
