South Korea intends to establish a full-fledged lunar base by 2045. This ambitious project is part of the updated national space strategy, which includes at least five key missions.

This is reported by Yonhap news agency with reference to a presentation by the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA), which was presented at the National Science Foundation in Daejeon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The new strategy focuses on the study of low Earth orbit, microgravity, the Moon, the Solar System, and fundamental aspects of space science. Particular attention is paid to lunar exploration.

KASA plans to:

  • develop its own technologies for landing on the Moon and moving on its surface;
  • study the satellite’s resources and use them for economic activities;
  • create a new lander for logistics missions by 2040;
  • build economic infrastructure on the Moon by 2045.

South Korea also intends to intensify research into the Sun and heliosphere. In particular, it plans to launch a probe to monitor solar activity from the Lagrange point L4, a stable gravitational position between the Earth and the Sun. The launch is scheduled for the period up to 2035.
