In Ukraine, women can give birth free of charge at both public and some private medical facilities. This right and opportunity for Ukrainian women in labor is provided by the Medical Guarantees Program. How it works and who it applies to is discussed in a YouTube conversation with
According to him, every woman has the right to give birth free of charge at any medical facility in Ukraine that operates under the Medical Guarantees Program.
“Absolutely any woman can give birth for free at any medical facility in Kyiv or Ukraine. And not only in public facilities, but also in private ones that operate under the Medical Guarantees Program,” he emphasized.
The doctor emphasized that in state hospitals, all medical care during childbirth is provided to women free of charge! At the same time, women in labor are provided with adequate conditions of stay and, only at their own request, can receive an approved list of paid services and use them if necessary.
He stressed that patients’ refusal of paid services in no way affects the quality or conditions of their stay and treatment.
“This does not mean that a woman who does not pay, for example, for improved conditions, will end up in a ward with six people. These are all myths. We haven’t had this for a very long time. The maximum is two, sometimes three (women can stay in one ward). And that’s during peak birth rates,” said the director of the Center.
He also said that women now stay in the maternity ward for a much shorter period of time after giving birth than before. After a natural birth, patients can be discharged on the second or third day, and after a C-section, on the third or fourth day.
“When I started working, women stayed in the maternity ward for two weeks after a C-section. Today, they go home on the third day. This is due to technological advances, measures to prevent complications, and other new possibilities in medicine,” added Dmytro Govseev.
The director of the perinatal center assured that modern conditions in Ukrainian maternity hospitals are adequate and meet high standards of comfort and medical care.
