Air alerts: Ukrainians may be cut off from mobile communications

The General Staff suggests the possibility of turning off the mobile network or significantly slowing down the mobile Internet during alarms. This was reported to Suspilne by a source in the General Staff, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to the military, Ukraine currently has enough means to prevent Russian troops from using mobile communications to navigate drones. However, the situation may change in the future, and additional tools will have to be used.

Such measures, the General Staff emphasizes, are most effective against drones with cameras, which require a stable high-speed Internet connection to transmit images and coordinates in real time.

“Such measures (shutting down the network or reducing the speed of the Internet) make sense. Whether it is necessary to do so depends on specific conditions. In some cases, it may be advisable to artificially reduce the speed of the mobile Internet to limit the operation of FPV drones,” the source explained.

Which drones are at risk

At the same time, the military clarified that drones without cameras do not require high Internet speeds to transmit data. Instead, it is drones with real-time video broadcasting that are most vulnerable to this method of counteraction.
