russia loses gold medal at 2022 Olympic Games due to doping

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has disqualified Russian figure skater Kamila Valiyeva for doping before the 2022 Olympic Games. Since the athlete was a member of the Russian team that won gold in the team figure skating competition, the entire Russian team will now be stripped of their award, reports 
The positive result of the doping test was found after the Russians had won the team competition, but during the Games in February 2022. But the legal battle has continued to this day.
The figure skater received a four-year disqualification (which, however, starts on 25 December 2021), and she was stripped of all awards and prize money. The Russian national figure skating team, of which the athlete was a member, is also automatically stripped of its gold medal.
The gold medals will now go to American athletes, and the silver and bronze medals to Japan and Canada, respectively, who finished second to Russia at the 2022 Olympic Games.
