SBU serves notice of suspicion in absentia to Russian brigadier who ordered to attack Ukrainian military with chemical weapons

Law enforcement officers have documented war crimes of another Russian soldier and notified in absentia the Russian brigade commander who ordered to attack Ukrainian defenders of Donetsk region with banned chemical weapons.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the investigation, it is the colonel commander of the 123rd motorized rifle brigade of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation, Roman Shkrob.

On December 20, 2023, he ordered the use of K-51 and RG-VO gas grenades against Ukrainian defenders in Donetsk region. In this way, the enemy tried to break through the Ukrainian defense during continuous fighting near the village of Spirne.

Using grenades with chemical charges, including tear gas, the Russians hoped to force Ukrainian soldiers to leave defensive shelters during the assault.

The defendant was served a notice of suspicion of a war crime committed by a group of people by prior conspiracy.

As a reminder, the command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has officially reported that Russian troops are using poisonous gases and tear gas ammunition on the battlefield. These are mostly K-51 grenades and RGMs dropped on positions by drones.
