A cyberattack was launched against US government agencies and American companies due to a vulnerability in Microsoft’s SharePoint program.
This was reported by the Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing officials and private researchers, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“Hackers have exploited a major security vulnerability in Microsoft’s widely used server software to launch a global attack on government agencies and companies in the past few days,” the article says.
The hackers reportedly targeted state and regional agencies, as well as universities and energy companies. It is not yet known who is behind the large-scale cyberattack.
According to WP, authorities in the US, Canada, and Australia have already launched an investigation into the vulnerability of SharePoint servers. It is noted that Microsoft suggested that users make changes to server programs or simply disconnect them from the Internet to avoid information leaks, but declined to comment further.
Prior to that, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the Pentagon would urgently check information about the access of programmers from China to the department’s computer systems as Microsoft subcontractors.
