The Job Market in Ukraine: Kyiv Has the Most Job Openings
22 June 17:15
On the “Unified Job Portal,” the majority of job openings—about 71,000—are in Kyiv, according to Stanislav Pavlenko, deputy director of the State Employment Center (SCE), Stanislav Pavlenko, in comments to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Due to internal population migration and business relocation, demand for workers is growing in relatively safe regions, while in frontline areas, economic activity is declining. The highest number of job openings is in Kyiv: 71,000, or one-third of all available vacancies,” said the SEC representative.
Looking at the distribution of vacancies by region, the highest number of job openings is in Lviv Oblast—22,000, or 10% of all vacancies; Dnipropetrovsk Oblast—18,000, or 8% of all vacancies; Kyiv Oblast—16,000, or 7% of all vacancies; Odesa Oblast—14,000, or 6% of all vacancies; and Kharkiv Oblast—11,000, or 5% of all vacancies.
The fewest vacancies are found in the Luhansk region—207 job openings.
According to a representative of the State Employment Service, “on the ‘Unified Job Portal,’ the largest number of job openings is for workers in the retail and service sectors.”
In particular, employers are looking for 17,000 salespeople and nearly 7,000 administrative staff.
“The significant demand for certain professions is due to high staff turnover in these sectors. Salespeople, waitstaff, baristas, support staff, and loaders change jobs quite frequently. In addition, the largest number of job openings is always found in professions that exist in nearly all sectors of the economy—drivers, accountants, lawyers, and economists,” Pavlenko explained.
