The Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce (IRCC) has closed a project that allowed paying for Italian goods in rubles in order not to jeopardize its businesses in Russia. This was announced by a representative of the office of the president of the IRCC, Alberto Scalzi, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian propaganda media.
“It (the project to pay for goods in rubles – ed.) existed for several weeks, and at the end of April 2024, we suspended it after receiving a notification from the Italian Financial Security Committee. We wanted to make sure that no one could interpret this project as a way to circumvent sanctions, and of course, that was not our goal,” Scalzi emphasized.
In July 2024, former President of the IRTP Ferdinando Pelazzo said that many Italian companies are ready to continue working in Russia, but they want to trade in euros. Pelazzo assured that the IRTP will help such companies find banks that will be able to make payments. He also noted that banks, which had been very cautious in the past, have become even more cautious now.
