Trump and Putin resume contact: what the leaders talked about for more than 2 hours

US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on October 16. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the American leader’s description on the Truth Social social network.
At about 18:30 Kyiv time, Trump wrote the following on his page:
“I’m talking to President Putin right now. The conversation is ongoing, it’s lengthy, and I, like President Putin, will report on its content after it’s completed. Thank you for your attention to this issue.
The conversation itself began no later than 18:00. It was during this time period that CBS journalist Aaron Navarro wrote on his page on the social network X that Putin and Trump had started talking on the phone. The journalist cited information from his source in the White House.
The conversation between the leaders of official Washington and Moscow was the first in almost two months. The two presidents called 59 days after their previous phone contact.
As of 20:00, the conversation between the two leaders was over. It lasted more than 2 hours. The White House has already reported that it was “very good and productive.” The result will be a high-level meeting between Russia and the United States next week. Official Washington does not rule out that it could be a personal meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

On his Truth Social page, the American president said that the US delegation would meet with a delegation from Russia next week. They will discuss preparations for the meeting between Trump and Putin in Budapest, Hungary.
At the end of the conversation, we agreed to have a meeting between our high-ranking officials next week. The first meeting on the part of the United States will be chaired by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with other designated representatives. The location of the meeting will be determined at a later date,” Trump wrote.
According to Trump, he truly believes that success in the Middle East will help us in negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He also clarified that he would indeed meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office tomorrow. He will discuss today’s conversation with Putin.

The White House leader also shared what he expects from the meeting in Budapest. He wrote the following:
Putin and I will meet in Budapest to agree to end the war (in Ukraine – ed.)
The US president also spoke with the Russian leader about trade between the two countries after the war in Ukraine ends.
