U.S. President Donald Trump has admitted that his country is making money from the war in Ukraine. He said this during a conversation with journalists, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“The war is funded by NATO. NATO is buying our equipment,” he said.
At the same time, Trump said he did not want to do so.
“I don’t want to make money on this war. I don’t want to, but we’re actually making money on this war because they’re buying our equipment, as you know. (…) They’re paying for missiles, they’re paying for tanks, and then they’re giving it to Ukraine,” Trump said.
Trump reiterated that his predecessor Joe Biden’s administration had allegedly provided $350 billion to Ukraine.
In February, the Pentagon and independent analysts denied Trump’s claim of $350 billion spent on Ukraine.
As you know, Trump changed the policy of military aid to Ukraine after coming to power. After the end of free aid, which was approved earlier, the United States will provide military assistance to Ukraine at the expense of NATO countries. Deliveries are realized under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism.
According to the program, Ukraine compiles a list of military needs and submits it to NATO. After that, partner countries purchase American weapons and transfer them to Kyiv for the needs of the Armed Forces.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the first two packages under the PURL program would include missiles for the Patriot and Himars air defense systems.
