U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia had expressed a desire to cease fire in a conversation with him.
The politician said that he had “just” spoken with the acting prime minister of Thailand.
“Thailand, like Cambodia, wants an immediate ceasefire and peace. I am now going to pass that message back to the Cambodian prime minister,” the American leader said.
On the morning of July 24, clashes broke out on the border of Thailand and Cambodia. The parties accused each other of starting the fighting at the border near the disputed Ta Moan Thom temple. The authorities of Surin province in Thailand claim that Cambodia shelled one of the settlements with artillery. At the same time, the Cambodian Ministry of Defense said that Thai troops had made an unprovoked invasion and Cambodian forces responded in self-defense. After the fighting began, an F-16 fighter jet from the Thai army attacked targets in Cambodia. The clashes on the border occurred after Thailand recalled its ambassador to Cambodia on July 23, decided to expel its ambassador from Bangkok, and closed the border with the neighboring country.
