Three rounds of power outages: what is known about the schedules for December 16

16 December 2025 04:48

On Tuesday, December 16, most regions of Ukraine will apply hourly power outage schedules for household consumers and power restrictions for industry. This was reported by NPC Ukrenergo, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Why the blackouts are introduced

According to the company, the reason for the introduction of restrictive measures is the consequences of Russian missile and drone attacks on energy infrastructure. Damage to generation and grids forces power engineers to balance the system in the face of power shortages.

Ukrenergo emphasized that the situation in the power system remains dynamic and can change throughout the day.

Data on queues is no longer published

Energy companies no longer publish information on the number of simultaneously involved queues and the total volume of outages. Citizens are urged to rely exclusively on official reports of regional power distribution companies in their regions.

“The time and scope of outages at a particular address should be specified on the official pages of distribution system operators,” the company said.

A call for economical consumption

Ukrenergo also appealed to consumers to use electricity rationally, especially during peak hours, if electricity is available. This will help to reduce the load on the power system and shorten the duration of outages.

Why schedules differ between regions

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy explained that the different levels of outages in the regions are due to the destruction or damage to generating facilities in the frontline and border regions with Russia. It was there that the power system suffered the greatest losses.

How many queues are there now

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko previously reported that three rounds of hourly blackout schedules are currently in effect throughout Ukraine. According to her, this situation may persist for a long time, but the government is working to gradually reduce restrictions.

Why the restrictions remain in place

Ukraine has already experienced eight massive attacks on the power grid since the beginning of the year. Each of them caused new damage to the grids and generating facilities.

On December 8, Ukrenergo CEO Vitaliy Zaichenko said:

  • “The situation in the power system remains difficult but under control;
  • power engineers are working around the clock to return power to the system;
  • it is impossible to reduce the volume of outages in the short term.

Where to find out your outage schedule

“Ukrenergo urges Ukrainians to follow the updates on the official pages of regional power distribution companies in their region. They publish current schedules and changes in outages.

Information for each region is updated in social networks on the official pages of the regional power companies:
