Food prices in June: what went up and what went down

16 June 2025 10:01

In June 2025, Ukraine will see a marked increase in prices for meat products, while newly harvested vegetables and eggs will become cheaper. This is evidenced by the results of the monthly food monitoring byUCAB (Ukrainian Agribusiness Club), according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Prices for vegetables of the last harvest continue to rise. The borscht index decreased by 12% over the month, but grew by 27% year-on-year, reaching UAH 196. This is 26 UAH cheaper than last month, when the cost of the dish was 222 UAH.

Meat is getting sharply more expensive: chicken has soared in price by 25-28%

The largest price changes were recorded in the meat market.

In particular, beef (goulash) rose in price by 6% over the month to UAH 336/kg, which is 20% more expensive than last year.

Chicken showed even more rapid growth:

  • fillet went up by 11% to 222 UAH/kg (39% year-on-year),
  • thigh – by 28% to 154 UAH/kg (39% year-on-year),
  • carcass – by 25% to 110 UAH/kg (42% year-on-year).

In contrast, the price of pork neck remained stable at 330 UAH/kg, which is 31% higher than last year.

The significant rise in chicken prices is partly due to higher feed costs, while beef prices are rising amid limited supply.

New crop vegetables are getting cheaper, old ones are getting more expensive

Seasonal price changes are most noticeable in the vegetable basket:

Vegetables of the new harvest:

  • Young cabbage – down 66% to 25 UAH/kg (but 64% more expensive than last year);
  • Cucumbers – down by 18%, average price – 65 UAH/kg (-11% year-on-year);
  • Tomatoes – stable at 99 UAH/kg (12% year-on-year).

Vegetables of the last harvest:

  • Onions – 33% over the month to 40 UAH/kg;
  • Old potatoes – 10% to 38 UAH/kg (33% for the year).

Theborsch index, calculated by UCAB based on the cost of key ingredients, decreased by 12% over the month to UAH 196. However, the year-on-year increase was 27%.

Dairy and groceries: stability with minor fluctuations

Over the past month, the dairy segment has demonstrated stable price dynamics, which is explained by an increase in the supply of raw materials.

The dairy products segment shows little change/

Milk fell by 2% to UAH 54.3 per 900 ml, cream – by 6% to UAH 33.3 per 200 g, and hard cheese slightly increased in price (1%) and costs UAH 631 per kg.

Groceries also remained almost unchanged in price. Sunflower oil fell by 2% to UAH 75.3 per 850 ml, and sugar – by 1% to UAH 32.7 per kg.

Eggs are getting cheaper, but remain expensive

There has also been a slight decline in prices for chicken eggs.

Prices for C1 chicken eggs decreased by 5% to UAH 68.9 per dozen. However, in annual terms, their price is still 79% higher than last year.
