The Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BES) has announced that it has shut down the Vape shoper chain in Kyiv. According to the agency, the outlets were selling e-cigarette liquids made illegally and without appropriate permits. This was reported by the department’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

What the investigators found

During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers found out that the stores were selling e-liquids containing nicotine that were not subject to any control and were made outside of legal production.

The detectives conducted searches at five outlets and seized more than 2,000 units of the products. Their estimated market value is about UAH 1 million.

The BES reports that the entire network has been suspended and the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Further investigative actions are possible, including the identification of the supply chain and manufacturers of illegal products.

This is not the first time law enforcement officers have uncovered the illegal production of e-liquids

Earlier, a large-scale scheme for the production of such liquids was dismantled in Kyiv region, which indicates a stable shadow market that is growing amid the popularity of vaping.
