An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale has occurred in the Sea of Marmara off the coast of the Turkish province of Istanbul.
This was reported by the Directorate of Disaster Management and Emergency Situations (AFAD), "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“The earthquake occurred at 12.49 local time in the Silivri district of Istanbul province. The strength of the tremors reached 6.2 on the Richter scale,” the report said.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 6.92 km in the Sea of Marmara at a distance of 23.16 km from Sirivri.
The tremors were felt in Istanbul, causing panic among the population.
The Istanbul Governorate reported on social networking site X that there were no reports of damage or casualties, and that they were monitoring the situation on the ground.
