Ukraine shuts down Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea for the first time – media

11 December 13:11

Drones from the Alpha Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) attacked the Filanovsky platform in the Caspian Sea, which belongs to Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft. As a result, oil and gas production from more than 20 wells has been halted, as reported by sources in the SBU on December 11, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The platform was hit at least four times. The SBU notes that this is the first Ukrainian attack on Russian oil production infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.

“The SBU continues successful special operations against the Russian oil and gas sector, constantly expanding their geography. “The ‘cotton’ in the Caspian Sea is yet another reminder to Russia that all its enterprises working for the war are legitimate targets. Wherever they are located,” said an informed source in the SBU.

The Filanovsky field is one of the largest in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, with reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The extracted products were exported through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

Attacks on Russian oil facilities

It should be added that attacks on Russian oil facilities allow to reduce fuel reserves for the occupiers’ army and cause economic losses to the Kremlin’s military machine.

The coordination work of the SBU, the SSO, the GUR, and the SSB has put about 20% of Russia’s oil refining capacity out of action, which has caused a fuel crisis and complicated logistics.

Earlier, the SBU drones successfully hit the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery, located 1400 km from the territory of Ukraine.

It was also reported that SBU drones hit and disabled the Tynhovatovo oil pumping station in the Chuvash Republic of the Russian Federation.

And yesterday it became known that a Russian sanctioned tanker was hit in the Black Sea. It belongs to the so-called “shadow fleet”. According to preliminary information, the vessel is out of commission.
