Official Kyiv has already established contact with the new Syrian government, in particular at the ministerial level. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tykhyi, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The official also said that Ukraine would be ready to restore diplomatic relations with Syria if the new government’s policy differs from the previous one.

As you know, relations between Syria and Ukraine have been significantly complicated due to the official support of the former regime in Syria for the actions of the Russian Federation against the backdrop of a full-scale war. Syria also recognized the “independence” of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR” in 2022, which led to the severance of diplomatic relations between Syria and Ukraine.

Ukraine is already helping Syrians

Ukraine has sent 500 tons of wheat flour to Syria as part of a humanitarian program. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on the social network X.

“As promised, we support the Syrian people in their time of need. 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour are on their way to Syria as part of our humanitarian program “Grain from Ukraine” in cooperation with the World Food Program,” the Head of State emphasized.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 33,250 families, or 167,000 people, will receive the flour in the coming weeks. As noted, each package weighs 15 kilograms and can feed a family of five for a month.

Who does the Grain from Ukraine program help and how?

The Ukrainian humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine was launched in 2022. This program provides much-needed food to countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East whose populations are facing famine and potential famine. In cooperation with the UN World Food Program, more than 30 countries and international organizations have joined Ukraine in implementing this initiative.

Speaking at the 3rd International Conference on Food Security “Grain from Ukraine” in late November, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since the inception of this initiative, 20 million people have been saved from hunger. At the same time, he clarified that this was only thanks to one Ukrainian humanitarian program. In general, according to him, Ukrainian food exports provide 400 million people in one hundred countries. The Head of State stated that Ukraine is one of the world’s largest donors of food security.
