Ukraine has the first agricultural project that received state funding for the construction of a modern vegetable storage facility. Latifundist.com writes about it, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The project is being implemented by Agroinvest in the Ternopil region – the company was the first to take advantage of a government decree from April that increased the support limits for such facilities to UAH 150 million.

According to Latifundist.com, the company’s founder, Yuriy Pudlyk, said that the bank has already opened a credit line under the government program, and construction will start as soon as weather conditions allow. The company received a permit to build a storage facility with a capacity of 7,000 tons, held a tender and selected a contractor.

What is known about the project

The cost of the new vegetable storage facility exceeds $3 million.

According to the plan:

  • this year, the foundation is to be poured;
  • in the winter – to manufacture metal structures;
  • in the spring, the installation of the frame;
  • refrigeration equipment has already been ordered.

According to the publication, Agroinvest has been preparing for the project since 2023, when the company was just starting to work with vegetables and had 16 hectares under cultivation. Already in the fall of that year, the company began designing and processing land documents, and the full project with expertise was ready in December 2023.

Why it is important for Ukraine

The need for modern vegetable storage facilities in the country remains critical.

According to the government:

  • the capacity deficit exceeds 1.1 million tons,
  • more than 281 thousand tons of simultaneous storage was lost due to the war,
  • up to 35% of the harvest is lost annually due to inadequate storage conditions.

Experts emphasize that for efficient logistics and price stability, Ukraine needs modern storage facilities for 10-20 thousand tons in each region.

The government is already working on developing a new program of non-repayable assistance for the construction of vegetable storage facilities, which should start in 2026.
