Ukrainian fencer wins three gold medals at European Championships

anna Maksimenko, a 16-year-old fencer from Lviv, has reached the podium of the European Fencing Championships among cadets and juniors for the third time, Kommersant Ukrainian reports

The girl won three gold medals at the competition in Naples.
The athlete very confidently came out of the group round as the leader of the selection. The future champion went on to win six matches in the play-offs, including the last three with a single shot. In particular, in the final, she snatched the victory from the Spaniard Lucia Abajo Salcedo (15:14), having been behind for most of the match.
The Lviv-based athlete won her third medal in the individual competition. In the final, Anna defeated another Ukrainian, Emily Conrad. For both fencers, these are the first awards in their careers at the European Championships.
In addition, Anna Maksymenko, as part of the Ukrainian national fencing team, won the title of European champion in 2024 (among cadets).
On the way to the championship, our athletes defeated the national teams of Slovakia (45:18) and the Czech Republic (45:24). And in the semi-finals, they defeated their rivals from Estonia with a score of 45:30. In the final, the team of Ukrainian athletes – Emily Conrad, Anna Maksymenko, Maria Sereda and Alina Dmytruk – defeated the Polish team in the fight for gold (45:35).
