Ukrainian producers were warned against raising egg prices. Americans have other problems as well

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has issued personal recommendations to 10 participants in the chicken egg market to refrain from violating competition law. This was announced by the Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Pavlo Kyrylenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The committee states that today in Ukraine there is an increase in the cost of eggs at food retail outlets.
“This situation is typical for the chicken egg market, in particular on the eve of Easter, when the demand for the product increases. Currently, the Antimonopoly Committee is conducting a study of price fluctuations for chicken eggs,” the AMCU said in a statement.
Producers are urged not to create an artificial shortage
The Antimonopoly Committee warns against a situation in which the increase in exports of chicken eggs will occur at the expense of a decrease in their sales in the domestic market.
As noted, this may lead to the creation of conditions for an artificial shortage of eggs in the domestic market of Ukraine and higher prices for this product for end consumers, given the increase in demand due to the approach of Easter.
In view of such possible developments, the Antimonopoly Committee warns business entities engaged in the production of chicken eggs against raising prices and creating conditions for an artificial shortage.
Prices for chicken eggs have been rising for several weeks now
The March food monitoring report of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club, released two weeks ago, stated that eggs went up by 10% over the month, reaching an average price of UAH 73.1 per dozen.
According to the experts, egg prices in March were formed under the influence of several key factors: the cost of feed and weather conditions.
Two weeks later, experts from the Agribusiness Club confirmed the upward trend in chicken egg prices. It is noted that over the past month, the average cost of a dozen eggs has jumped by 9%, reaching UAH 76.4. Thus, this year’s price has already exceeded last year’s: compared to the same period last year, the price has already increased by almost 30%.
Experts believe that high demand on the eve of the holiday will keep egg prices at the same level or may provoke further slight fluctuations. However, in May, after the holidays, the supply of eggs on the market will increase due to products from households, which in turn will lead to a decrease in prices on the shelves by about 25%.
In the US, due to shortages and high prices, potatoes will be dyed instead of eggs for Easter
On the eve of Easter, Americans are faced with a choice: what to do with the traditional dyeing of eggs. The New York Times reports.
Prices and shortages are doing their job, and unconventional ideas for preparing for the holiday using alternative products, such as potatoes, are already spreading on social media. And some people are simply arguing for dyeing plastic eggs.
“Easter eggs across the country will cost more than in previous years. Although egg prices are falling across the country, concerns about cost remain, and many consumers are getting creative in finding substitutes. Videos on how to dye marshmallows, potatoes, and even onions have begun to circulate on social media and news sites,” the publication writes.
One food blogger, for example, offers a “healthy imitation recipe.” She mixes peanut butter, almond flour, and maple syrup and forms the mixture into eggs, which she then dips into melted white chocolate tinted with blue spirulina and matcha powder.
However, commentators on social media are divided into two camps: some are grateful for the alternative ideas and are considering using them to save money on buying real eggs, while others emphasize that eggs are not so expensive that they should abandon traditions.
