Ukrainian swimmer Vladislav Bukhov won gold in the 50m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The Donetsk native beat the reigning swimming champion, Australian Cameron McEvoy, by 00.1 seconds to become the world swimming champion.

With a time of 21:38 seconds in the final, Bukhov also set a national record for Ukraine. His gold medal is historic for Ukraine, as our compatriots have never won gold in this event at the World Cup before.

Makewei took second place (21.45 seconds), and Benjamin Proud of Great Britain took third place (21.53 seconds).

The medal of 21-year-old Bukhov became the first award for Ukrainian swimmers at the 2024 World Championships in Doha. It is also his first award at the adult level of the World Championships.

It should be noted that in 2020, Vladyslav Bukhov set a world record in the junior category in the 50-metre butterfly.
