The state is stepping up its support for Ukrainian science. The government has approved a procedure for allocating funds to finance scientific institutions and university research, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The key criterion is effectiveness. The amount of basic funding is determined based on the results of state certification. In total, we are allocating more than UAH 3 billion to the development of science,” Svyrydenko said.
According to Svyrydenko, the funds will be distributed in three main areas: incentives for scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers, development of research infrastructure and modern equipment, and institutional development.
Based on the results of state certification, 246 leading scientific institutions and higher education establishments will receive basic funding.
“More than 50,000 scientists will receive an additional salary supplement for the first time in recognition of the results of their institutions’ work,” the prime minister said.
The largest amount of funding will go to institutions and universities in the country’s key scientific centers—Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro, and Sumy—where a significant part of the research infrastructure and scientific teams are concentrated.
