After a Russian drone struck the Druzhba oil pipeline, most of the internal equipment was damaged due to the burning oil. This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal at a briefing for journalists after the NSDC meeting, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
In particular, the minister said that the temperature regime damaged most of the internal equipment and sensors.
“This is not visible from the outside, but it is a large amount of work. Naftogaz is currently completing the defect detection,” Shmyhal said.
According to him, after the defect detection is completed, an estimate will be made of the repairs needed, as well as the time and resources required to carry out the repairs and the possibility of “continuing to physically operate this oil pipeline.”
Shmygal said that the occupiers’ drone hit one of the largest tanks, which at that moment contained 25,000 cubic meters of oil.
“Part of this oil was already being pumped into pipes at the moment it was burning in order to avoid a major man-made and environmental disaster. The oil was actually in a boiling state,” he said.
On January 27, as a result of a targeted Russian attack, the technological and auxiliary equipment of the Druzhba oil pipeline was significantly damaged.
The Druzhba oil pipeline is one of the key routes for transporting Russian oil to Central European countries, including Hungary.
