Cucumbers have risen in price in Ukraine: what is the reason

20 September 2025 08:25

This week in Ukraine, the cost of greenhouse cucumbers increased significantly after producers raised selling prices amid increased demand and reduced supply.

This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project. It was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Ukrainian greenhouse plants declare prices for cucumbers in the range of 25-45 UAH/kg, which is on average 19% more expensive than at the end of last week. At the same time, further price increases are expected due to strong demand and a seasonal decline in the supply of greenhouse vegetables.

Market operators explain that several factors influence the price increase.

First of all, greenhouse cucumber producers have no competition, as there is virtually no open-ground produce on sale anymore.

In addition, due to the cool and cloudy weather in Ukraine, the selection of vegetables in greenhouse plants is decreasing, and the current production volumes do not cover all the needs of buyers.

However, analysts noted that despite the significant rise in prices, this year’s prices for greenhouse cucumbers are still lower than in the same period last year, by an average of 29%.
