From assault to serious charges: ninth grader from Kyiv faces charges for attempted murder of teacher and student

In Kyiv, law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings under the article “attempted murder of two or more persons” after an attack in one of the schools in the Obolonskyi district. This is stated in a report by the Kyiv police and prosecutor’s office.
According to the investigation, a 14-year-old ninth-grade student attacked a 39-year-old history teacher and his classmate with a knife in the morning.
How the attack happened
Investigators established that before the attack, the teenager:
- went into the school bathroom;
- put on a mask and helmet that he had prepared in advance;
- then ran into the classroom and stabbed them.
After the attack, the student left the classroom, locked himself in the bathroom again, and stabbed himself.
What is known about the condition of the victims
All three — the teacher, the student, and the attacker himself — have been hospitalized.
- The teacher is in serious condition.
- The student and the attacker have stab and cut wounds.
- The final severity of the injuries will be determined by doctors.
Actions taken by law enforcement
After receiving medical assistance, the minor suspect is to be detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Obolon Police Department of Kyiv under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office.
Theory of possible Russian influence
A separate line of investigation is the possible influence of Russian special services.
During an examination of the teenager’s mobile phone, law enforcement officers found correspondence with unknown individuals who, according to preliminary data, may be connected to Russia. The correspondence likely discussed plans to carry out an attack.
The motives for the student’s actions are currently being established.

The incident at the Kyiv school became known in the morning. According to the National Police, a teacher and a student were injured and immediately received medical assistance. Later, the media published a photo of the teenager who carried out the attack.
