In an interview for the YouTube channel [Kommersant] attorney and lawyer Rostyslav Kravets said that Ukraine is facing what he calls “wild mobilization“. According to him, the state systematically violates the rights of citizens during mobilization activities, and the false thesis that military service is a form of punishment has been imposed on society for years.
Kravets drew parallels with the lustration process, which, in his opinion, was also sometimes conducted without taking into account individual responsibility:
“When there was lustration… I came across the conclusions of the Venice Commission, which used the term ‘wild lustration’: when a person is fired just because he or she worked under a certain regime, without evidence of breaking the law. The same thing is happening now with mobilization,” the lawyer said.
“People are afraid. They are being brought in a psychologically difficult state.”
The lawyer emphasized that recruiters of the Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRC) tell about people who are brought to them in a shocked or stressed state. According to Kravets, the reason is that politicians are forming a dangerous public opinion.
“From the first day of the war, MPs have been imposing on society that service is a punishment. Drunk driving – to the front. A corrupt official – to the front. If you do something wrong, you go to the front. But the Armed Forces are not a punishment,” he emphasized.
Kravets believes that such statements by politicians create a negative attitude toward service:
“Society has an opinion that if you are sent to the army, it is a punishment. This needs to be changed.”
At the end of the conversation, Kravets drew attention to last year’s statistics, where, according to him, the most common case was the so-called “busification ” – when people are forcibly taken to the military commissariat by minibuses.
