Four subjects, the usual test structure and possibly a two-day model: Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assurance told what NMT will be like in 2026

In 2026, the structure of the national multi-subject test (NMT) will remain the same as in 2025. This was stated by Tetiana Vakulenko, director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment, in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

“In 2026, we are definitely not changing anything about the content of the tests. That is, these are four subjects, the programs are relevant, and the structure of the test tasks is the same.
So you can use the options that are already available on our website,” she said.

At the same time, according to Vakulenko, the Ministry of Education and Science, together with the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation and the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality, are currently discussing only the format of the test – whether it will be one-day or divided into two days.

“The only thing the government is considering now is whether it will be a one-day test: two subjects, a break, two more subjects, or a two-day model – two subjects on one day and two more on the other. This is a matter of discussion, but it is only about the duration of the assessment,” she clarified.

According to her, the two-day model may be more convenient for residents of large cities, but more difficult for those who live near combat zones or abroad.

“It will be more difficult for those applicants who are abroad or in the area close to active hostilities. Because they will not get the result immediately, they will have to come twice to get it. But in any case, as for the content of the tests, everything remains the same. There will be nothing new,” she informed.

As a reminder, the National Multisubject Test (NMT) was first held in 2022 instead of the External Independent Testing (EIT) due to the full-scale war.

Its format is simplified: tests are held online at temporary examination centers in Ukraine and abroad.

In 2023, the number of subjects was increased to four: Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine, and a subject of choice.

NMT results are used for admission to higher education institutions.
