Is it harmful to eat at night: nutritionist’s explanation

You can eat in the evening, and it will not lead to weight gain. The main thing is that the number of calories consumed does not exceed the daily allowance. This was stated by fitness trainer and nutritionist Viktor Mandzyak in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel.
“Not eating in the evening is one of the biggest myths. People think it’s logical that if I eat in the evening and go to bed, I won’t move, and therefore, calories are not spent, and all the food I eat turns into fat. People are all logical, absolutely everyone. The only question is what data our logic is based on,” the expert said.
According to him, during sleep, the body is actively working and burning calories.
“During a night’s sleep, our body burns about 600 calories. And this is much more than the same cake,” he explained.

Mandziak emphasized that weight gain or loss does not depend on the time of eating, but on the daily calorie balance.
“Whether a person gains weight or loses weight will depend on how many calories enter the body and how many are burned by the body during the day. It doesn’t matter what a person does after eating some food: sleeps or goes for a walk. The only thing that matters is how the calories I have consumed correlate with the calories my body has spent,” he added.
The question of whether to eat before bedtime has long been a source of controversy among nutritionists. Some believe that late meals contribute to weight gain, while others believe that the main thing is not the time, but the overall balance of calories and the quality of the diet during the day.
