Drones of unknown origin hit another oil refinery in Russia last night, this time in Saratov.
The attack took place at four in the morning Kyiv time. The refinery in question is the Kreking plant, which is one of the oldest oil refineries in Russia.
The refining capacity of this plant reaches 7 million tons of oil per year.
“The plant plays an important role in providing the Russian army with fuel. Even during the Second World War, it was critical for military logistics, and today it remains an important element of fuel supply,”

Saratov Oil Refinery
Saratov Oil Refinery, founded on April 27, 1934 as Saratov Cracker Plant No. 4, is one of the oldest oil refineries in Russia. It is part of the Rosneft oil company and has a refining capacity of 7.2 million tons of oil as of 2020.
During the Second World War, the refinery played an important role in supplying fuel to the front for the Soviet army, despite constant bombing. Particularly heavy air raids in June 1943 led to the almost complete destruction of the plant.
Today, the company produces more than 20 types of products, including unleaded gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, vacuum gas oil and industrial sulfur. Since 2013, Rosneft has owned 81% of the company’s shares, and the company’s shares are traded on the Moscow Stock Exchange under the ticker KRKN. Throughout its history, the plant has gone through several stages of modernization, including the launch of a 300,000-tonne-per-year pentane-hexane isomerization unit in 2013.
