International Matriculation 2026: Council decides to keep the one-day format of the NMT

The relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada has determined that the 2026 admission campaign will be held in the same format as last year – the National Multisubject Test will be held in one day with the possibility of additional sessions. This was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on education, science and innovation, Serhiy Babak, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Why this format has been preserved
According to Babak, the one-day NMT model provides equal conditions for all applicants, regardless of where they live or whether they are in Ukraine. When making its decision, the Committee took into account
- the situation in the frontline communities,
- conditions for applicants who are forced to stay abroad,
- technical and organizational capabilities of the test in different territories.
What do applicants think about it?
The Committee took into account the results of surveys of this year’s NMT participants.
Most of them said that the one-day format is more comfortable:
- easier to get to the testing center,
- less psychological stress,
- lower risk of delaying the process during the war.
This was an argument in favor of keeping the previous model.
Issues of accessibility and equality
According to Babak, the one-day format guarantees equal conditions for everyone, transparency of the organization, and fairness of the admission campaign for participants in different regions.
Earlier, in an interview with the Kommersant Ukrainian YouTube channel, Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment Tetiana Vakulenko said that in 2026 the structure of the National Multisubject Test (NMT) would remain the same as in 2025.
The National Multisubject Test (NMT) was first held in 2022 instead of the External Independent Testing (EIT) due to the full-scale war.
Its format has been simplified: tests are held online at temporary examination centers in Ukraine and abroad.
In 2023, the number of subjects was increased to four: Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine, and a subject of choice.
NMT results are used for admission to higher education institutions.
