In winter, residents of floors above the 9th floor in Kyiv may be left without heating during power outages. Stanislav Ignatiev, chairman of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, and MP Oleksiy Kucherenko said this during a national telethon on Wednesday, July 3, reports «Комерсант Український».

According to the expert, it is possible to raise the heat to such a height by providing the pumping group with generators. But this will require a huge amount of fuel.

“Heating will be supplied in winter. The question is, where will it be generated? And the second question is how to bring this heating to the high-rise buildings? A thermal power plant can provide pressure up to the 9th floor. I live in a 24-storey building, and it will be a difficult situation if the pumping group is not provided with additional generators,” Ignatiev said.

He added that the sewerage system will continue to work without electricity.

How apartment buildings can prepare for winter without electricity

According to Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, first of all, residents need to make sure that the pumps in their buildings are working and equipped with a backup power supply. Otherwise, heating and water will pass by the house and not enter it when there are blackouts.

The elevator should also work even during power outages. This is especially true for buildings with more than 20 floors. After all, residents of the upper floors, if they are elderly, will be practically imprisoned.

You can also install batteries in your apartment to power electrical appliances. For example, installing a battery to meet minimum needs can cost from 25 to 27 thousand hryvnias.
