American automakers will produce rockets — Trump

The American automakers General Motors and Ford intend to begin manufacturing weapons at their facilities, including the Patriot air defense system and Tomahawk missiles. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this during a conversation with journalists at the White House, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
“Defense contractors are currently in talks with General Motors; they are in talks with Ford. And I know that General Motors is looking forward to starting weapons production. They have some plants that they plan to repurpose. And they plan to produce weapons, including the Patriot, including the Tomahawk, and many other things,” Trump said.
Earlier, in April, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon was reaching out to automakers in an effort to boost weapons production—“just as was done during World War II.”
U.S. Weapons Stockpiles May Be Depleted Due to War in Iran
For its part, The New York Times reported that due to the war in Iran, U.S. stockpiles of many types of critical weapons, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, missiles for the Patriot air defense system, as well as ground-based Precision Strike and ATACMS missiles, are on the verge of depletion.
If Trump orders military commanders to launch additional strikes aimed at destroying or weakening Iran’s capabilities, U.S. forces will be forced to deplete even more of their most critical ammunition stocks, journalists noted in May. Such actions will further deplete U.S. stockpiles at a time when the Pentagon is working to replenish them.
According to the article, Washington’s European allies also share concerns about the depletion of U.S. weapons stocks. These allies have ordered billions of dollars’ worth of ammunition from the U.S. for Ukraine and now fear that it will not be delivered, as it will be needed by the U.S. military to replenish its own stockpiles, the authors explained.
However, the Pentagon, which the NYT contacted for comment, assured that the U.S. military “has everything it needs to defend its people and its interests.”
