MP Bezuhla says she does not celebrate Constitution Day and criticizes the Basic Law of Ukraine

On Saturday, June 28, Ukraine celebrates Constitution Day, a holiday dedicated to the Basic Law of the state. However, MP Mariana Bezuhla expressed a critical attitude towards this date and said that she saw no reason to celebrate.
In her Telegram channel, Bezuhla wrote that the Constitution of Ukraine, in her opinion, is not the true foundation of statehood. She called it “populist” and “dysfunctional” and noted that Viktor Medvedchuk, a politician with close ties to the Kremlin, took part in its development, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Bezuhla also drew attention to the restrictions laid down in the text of the Constitution, in particular, the inability to amend the document in a state of emergency or martial law. Because of this, she compared the Basic Law to a “prison for development” rather than a basis for the country’s progress.
“What is there to celebrate? Soviet old men did their best,” the MP concluded her post with a rhetorical question.
As a reminder, Mariana Bezuhla once proposed her own version of the text of the National Anthem of Ukraine.
