Searches were conducted at Yabluka: what is known about the seizure of $250 million worth of equipment

12 June 11:56

The Ukrainian electronics market may be facing one of the biggest scandals in recent years. Blogger and activist Yevgeny Prokopyshin reported on large-scale searches at the Yabluka chain’s facilities in Kyiv and the possible seizure of a large shipment of equipment, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The situation has drawn particular attention due to a recent deal involving “Citrus” and the announced relaunch of the business.

At the same time, the official reasons for the investigative actions have not yet been disclosed, and the company has not publicly provided a detailed explanation regarding the circumstances of the searches.

What Yevgeniy Prokopyshyn said

In his post, Yevgeny Prokopyshin reported that on June 10, law enforcement officials allegedly conducted large-scale searches at the Yabluka chain’s facilities in Kyiv.

“The Ukrainian electronics market is facing one of the most significant crises in recent years. According to sources, on June 10, law enforcement officials conducted large-scale searches at the Yabluka chain’s facilities in Kyiv,” Prokopyshyn wrote.

According to him, significant amounts of equipment may have been seized during the investigative actions.

“Significant amounts of equipment were seized during the investigative actions. Market sources speak of thousands of units of goods and the possible seizure of products worth over $250 million,” he noted.

However, this figure has not yet been confirmed by official authorities.

Why the story has caused a stir

The buzz surrounding the situation has intensified because it is unfolding against the backdrop of developments involving Yabluka and “Citrus.” Previously, the market was actively discussing the deal for the owner of Yabluka to acquire “Citrus” and the subsequent integration of the two chains.

Prokopyshyn noted that the story appears particularly sensitive against the backdrop of the arrival of new CEO Artem Shevchenko, who has publicly spoken about restarting the business, process transparency, and new operating standards.

“This story is particularly resonant against the backdrop of the recent deal to acquire Citrus and the arrival of new CEO Artem Shevchenko, who has publicly promised a business relaunch, transparency in processes, and new standards of operation,” Prokopyshyn wrote.

What is known about the possible scale of the seizure

According to information cited by Prokopyshyn, law enforcement may be focusing not only on offices but also on specific individuals associated with the company’s operations.

He also noted that if the information about the scale of the seizure is confirmed, it could pose serious operational challenges for the business.

“The main question is already being discussed by the entire market: if the information about the scale of the seizure is confirmed, will the company be able to continue operating as usual?” Prokopyshyn stated.

According to him, this may not be about a single warehouse or a single shipment of goods, but rather a much broader logistics infrastructure of one of the largest players in the electronics market.

No official information is available yet

As of the time of this report, the official reasons for the searches have not been disclosed.

There was also no detailed public statement from the company regarding what exactly served as the basis for the investigative actions and what quantities of equipment may have been seized.
